The volunteers look after the following areas in the town:
Welland Park rose garden which contains over 500 roses, herb and lavender borders and a box hedge knot garden surrounding the bell tower from the Symingtons factory.
In the town centre we have a mix of wooden and recycled plastic wooden planters in the High Street, The Square, St Mary’s Road and outside the Market on Northampton Road. We plant these up with summer planting in May and winter/spring planting in late September/October.
In the Cultural Quarter we have a large octagonal wooden planter behind the Old Grammar School and plant up the borders around St Dionysius church.
In Coventry Road we have planters in Manor Walk, at the front and rear of the Baptist Church and a large barrel by the roundabout junction with Fairfield Road
At the railway station we have installed barrier boxes on the platform railings and adjacent to the car park we have refurbished railway trolleys and new planters including alpine planters. Along the emergency exit footpath by the London platform we installed a row of blue planters planted with multistem Amelanchiers to make an impact. We are working on further improvements to this site. At the top of the ramp to the Leicester platform we have planted an alpine bed.
The canal basin and St Luke’s hospital are also sites that we have planters located.
Around the town centre you may also see a number of planted chairs (Josiahs), trolleys (Henderson Connellan) and hanging baskets (Naylors and Denise’s) that we plant up and the businesses look after.
We work all year round to maintain our planting areas to ensure Market Harborough looks good for residents and visitors.
